Salem Harbor CDC
The Salem Harbor Community Development Corporation is a community-based nonprofit that promotes economic empowerment and community building in and around Salem by developing quality, affordable rental and ownership housing, and providing opportunities for residents to invest in and benefit from the strengths of their community. As a result of their work, Salem residents have access to 167 affordable rental and cooperative housing units, with more in the process of development and/or rehabilitation, and an ever-growing number of ownership units. Through CDC programs and resources, local residents are able to develop the skills and competencies required to earn a living wage, participate in organizing for community power, and gain access to the knowledge and capital needed to grow neighborhood businesses. In a typical year, 30-40 business owners receive relevant technical assistance and training, and an additional 40 people per year participate in a 20-week Entrepreneurial Training Program. Each year, roughly 50 youth residents take advantage of Youth in Action, an arts-based youth leadership program, and 100 residents take advantage of ESOL classes. Please support this vital community work.
