Linda H. Brooks, Executive Director

A Suitable Image, Inc.

After achieving career success, Linda Brooks turned to her community, and with her funds launched A Suitable Image in April 2003—to ensure that unemployed, disadvantaged women were “suitably dressed” for job interviews. Taking referrals from shelters, employment centers, legal advocacy programs, and government agencies, this group provides a head-to-toe interview outfit, and coaches women in the practical and professional skills necessary to land employment and advance in careers. If the woman is hired, she may return to A Suitable Image for three more outfits, with further donated clothes if she stays at the job for six months. Over 700 (and quicky rising!) low-income women, aged 16-65, have been suited up, and the impact is heart-warming; says one beneficiary, “A new wardrobe helps us become independent again. I look in the mirror and see all the beauty come out. It helps so much with our self-esteem. Being here was fun, exciting, like being in a fashion show. This place is such a blessing.” Suitable is highly cost-effective: volunteers and supporting organizations organize clothing drives; most of its office needs are donated; it receives pro bono professional services. How would you like to be a part of this incredible resource?
