Bread of Life
Founded in 1980, incorporated in 1992, the Bread
of Life’s mission is “to feed the body and nurture the
soul.” They provide free evening meals, a food pantry,
and nutritional outreach for seniors and homeless persons,
with 500 volunteers from 35 partner churches,
synagogues, high schools, businesses, and civic groups,
north of Boston. Beyond food, they also distribute
clothing, social service referrals, “a listening ear, and
compassion.” The warmth of their community is
evident at mealtimes, as family members, co-workers,
and strangers of all ages freely and easily share their
fellowship. BOL has won numerous awards, including
the Anthony Spinnazzola Foundation Award in 2006
and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Governor’s
Council “Outstanding Humanitarian Award.” They
do have a problem of space: their three storefronts on
Main Street in Malden—for the office, food pantry
storage, and distribution—are slated for demolition,
and they are already overcrowded. Perhaps this is
where you might help with a significant gift?
