Legal Advocacy and Resource Center, Inc.
LARC is a legal services hotline for low and moderate
income people needing help fast. It was established
in 1983 by the Boston Bar, after their 1977 study had
concluded that low-income individuals need help to
navigate the maze of legal and social services. The
idea is that one phone call should provide a consultation
with a LARC advocate to answer questions about
rights, eligibility for free legal representation, and
next steps in gaining help, including receiving written
information and referral to human service agencies, or
even attorneys who might handle a case pro bono. Last
year they received 16,000 calls and provided a range
of services relating to housing, family law, public
benefits, employment, and consumer issues. With this
one-stop-shop approach callers have been able to stave
off homelessness, reverse the effects of an irresponsible
landlord and gain guardianship of a child in need.
LARCs attention to customer feedback and evaluation
has ensured high quality and overall customer
satisfaction. They need your support to help keep the
lines open.
