Northampton Survival Center, Inc.
Twenty-eight years ago, members of local religious
and social service communities founded the
Northampton Survival Center, to help low-income
Northampton residents meet basic needs—food,
clothing, household goods, and referrals for emergency
assistance—in a spirit of mutual respect. At
NSC, clients, volunteers, staff and donors all feel
welcomed and appreciated, and their numbers are
compelling: they distribute over 2,000 lbs. of food
every weekday to 4,000 residents of 16 communities
in Hampshire County. Their Kids’ Summer Program,
which provides subsidized meals for children
in schools, has almost doubled in the last two years.
Because their clients come to them in times of crises,
NSC understands how important it is to provide “a
stable and calming point of contact.” After all these
years, they still enlist 10 new volunteers every month,
and have a strong reputation for cost-effectiveness.
The Springfield Republican has called them “the little-
Center-that-could”; with $25,000 they can run their
entire Kids Summer Program, or serve 300 people at
their Hilltown Pantry for a year. Rural philanthropy
is a neglected field, and your support will go a long
way to bring food security to people striving for
overall economic stability.
