Chameleon Arts Ensemble of Boston CONTACT:6 Rocky Nook Terrace Boston, MA 02130 617-427-8200 www.chameleonarts.orgDeborah Boldin, Artistic Director
DESCRIPTION:CAE was founded in 1998 by flautist Deborah Boldin, who recruited award-winning young musicians to present excellent annual chamber concerts. She had a great idea: “In much the way that one would compose an original work, we craft musical evenings which combine standard and previously neglected traditional repertoire with the breadth and creativity of contemporary composers worldwide. This creates a refreshing and illuminating context for both. By stressing connections rather than differences between the two, we present a broader view of chamber music, and break down false preconceptions of a great divide between tradition and contemporary creation. By introducing audiences from within their own musical tradition to diverse other musical cultures, we provide opportunities for greater understanding of our shared humanity.” This programming philosophy, and the skill with which it has been executed, have earned Chameleon enthusiastic praise from critics, and admiration from colleagues. Chameleon is today considered one of Boston’s finest and most versatile chamber ensembles, noted for program design—the Boston Globe has said, "Planning a good chamber music program is an art unto itself, and few in town have mastered it as persuasively as the Chameleon Arts Ensemble." Chameleon also has developed an extensive outreach program, "Chameleons in the Community", collaborating with other philanthropic organizations to inspire interest and excellence in the arts and to enhance our cultural life.
